Life on bottom of/is/can be barrel means/feels/sounds like you're always facing/dealing with/struggling against some serious crap. You're constantly/always/forever scrambling/hustling/fighting to just survive. It can feel/look/sound like you're going nowhere.
But/Yet/Although, there's always a reason to keep going. Even at the bottom, you can find strength/learn something new. It might take time and effort/grit/determination but you can climb out/you're capable of making a change.
Total Fail
Dude, this mission/endeavor/project was a total flop/disaster/catastrophe. I mean, it's not even funny. Things went so badly/wrong/horribly that I wouldn't even joke about it/dare tell anyone/recommend it to my worst enemy. At this point, I'm just pissed off/frustrated/defeated. My plan was solid, but something always goes wrong/happened out of nowhere/just didn't work.

The Absolute Worst
It's hard to identify the absolute worst. Is it a rotten egg? Or perhaps that horrible sound coming from your neighbor's house at 3 am? Maybe it's that stale cracker you discovered in the back of the fridge. Whatever it is, we can all agree that "the worst" makes you want to scream. It's something we try to forget.
Sometimes, though, the absolute worst can be just plain bizarre. Think about that time your hair dye turned green. Maybe those memories aren't so bad after all.
They become stories you tell with friends, a reminder that even the absolute worst can have a silver lining.
Abyss of Hopelessness
